YMOB january 2026 Auditions
Audition registration is open now through December 28 for our January auditions!
Auditions for the Young Musicians of Baltimore Youth Orchestra 2026 Spring Season will be held in person or via video submission. Violinists, violists, cellists, and double bass players ages 12-18 are invited to audition. In person auditions for the spring season will be held on January 3, 2026 at Grace United Methodist Church, or online by video submission. Openings are limited. To audition, please fill out the audition registration form below. There is no fee to audition. Current members need not apply, we look forward to seeing you in January!
To prospective applicants: Please note that as a chamber orchestra, we are by definition small, and because we have auditions throughout the season, openings are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. Thank you for your understanding.
Audition Requirements: If you are unsure whether you meet the required repertoire levels, please submit the form below with details on your current repertoire and we will get back to you!
1st Violin: A three octave scale of your choice, and a prepared piece (minimum repertoire level ASTA Grade 6/7 or Haydn/Mozart Concerti or equivalent.) Students should be prepared to sight read. Typical 1st violin repertoire range: Monti Czardas - Sarasate Zigeunerweisen.
2nd Violin: A two or three octave scale of your choice, and a prepared piece (minimum repertoire level ASTA Grade 4 or Vivaldi Violin Concerto in A minor or Bach Double or equivalent). Students should be prepared to sight read. Typical 2nd violin repertoire range: Vivaldi concerti - Mozart sonatas.
Viola: A two or three octave scale of your choice, and a prepared piece (minimum repertoire level ASTA Grade 4 or Suzuki Book 4 or Telemann Concerto or equivalent). Students should be prepared to sight read.
Cello: A two or three octave scale of your choice, and a prepared piece (minimum repertoire level of ASTA Grade 4 or Suzuki Book 4 or equivalent). Students should be prepared to sight read.
Bass: A two or three octave scale of your choice, and a prepared piece (minimum repertoire level of ASTA Grade 3 or Suzuki Book 3 or equivalent). Students should be prepared to sight read.
